Introducing Gaming Garden – Enabling Better Access to Vertical Farming through Gamification

Gaming Garden:

Enabling Better Access to Vertical Farming through Gamification

In an exciting development, the Association for Vertical Farming (AVF) and its partners Edugarden, die Welt da draußen Spielentwicklung, and ISIFARMER have secured EU funding through Erasmus+ for their project on Gaming Garden – Enabling Better Access to Vertical Farming through Gamification.

What is Gaming Garden?

Gaming Garden aims to develop an innovative and inclusive educational program for vertical farming (VF) using gamification as the main learning method. Vertical farming presents a promising solution to the challenges of urban food production and climate change, but it can be complex to understand and implement. The goal of the project is to use gamification to spark interest in this important topic and create an engaging, accessible learning environment, particularly for individuals with disabilities.

What are the main objectives of ‘Gaming Garden’?

The primary objective of the project is to develop a didactic concept for educators that makes vertical farming content both understandable and interactive. Special emphasis is placed on inclusion, ensuring that the educational approach meets the needs of people with disabilities. This project promotes not only sustainable farming but also diversity and equality in education.

How will ‘Gaming Garden’ Develop?

Following a kick-off event that will introduce the key themes of vertical farming, gamification, and inclusion the content development begins. Further workshops will shape and weave the teaching framework together, focussing on integrating gamification elements into the teaching plan to make vertical farming education more appealing and effective.

A Workshop in Spain will allow partners to experience the local context and discuss accessibility in gamification. This will involve direct interaction with people with disabilities to ensure their perspectives are integrated into the project. At the end of the project a final report will be produced reviewing the gamification-based educational framework, and will serve as a basis for further dissemination activities.

Hear More about the Gaming Garden Project at the AVF Summit/Vertifarm in Messe Dortmund, Oct 8-10th, 2024. The partners of the project will be taking part in a roundtable discussion on Empowering Education in Vertical Farming through Gamification: Insights from the EU-Funded Gaming Garden Project.

We look forward to seeing you at Messe Dortmund and keep an eye out for updates from us during the project.
