AVF recently caught up with Aigars Jackus, Chief Operating Officer of Carbon Less Future, our newest AVF member.
Q: Who is CLF?
Carbon Less Future (CLF) is a sustainability-driven company developing innovative vertical farming containers designed specifically for growing trees and saplings in urban or industrial environments.
Growing forests in the middle of the cities.
Q: What is your technology, and who is it for?
Our core technology is a modular, self-contained vertical growing container equipped with a glazing wall for natural light optimization, a precision climate control system, and adaptive airflow. It is built for:
- Municipalities seeking to improve urban greening and comply with biodiversity net gain targets
- Corporates needing verifiable ESG projects for CO₂ sequestration and EU Taxonomy compliance
- Universities & Schools as a living educational tool to teach about trees, sustainability, and environmental responsibility
- Construction or infrastructure projects with offsetting or restoration requirements
Q: What is unique about your product and approach?
- We specialize exclusively in tree cultivation, not leafy greens or herbs
- Our glazing wall allows real-time visibility and natural growth observation, making it perfect for educational and urban display
- Each unit is plug-and-grow, with minimal maintenance and full remote monitoring
- Designed for measurable impact — trees are later planted in certified land restoration zones and contribute to traceable carbon offsetting
Q: What is the potential of your technology going forward?
Our technology has the potential to become:
- A standardized ESG tool for global companies aiming to report natural capital gains
- An urban forestry solution embedded in city architecture, commercial real estate, or industrial zones
- A scalable biodiversity intervention aligned with EU Green Deal goals and Nature Restoration Law
- A visual communication object – our containers are both functional and aesthetic, serving as green statements in any environment
Q: What are your goals in the future?
- To deploy 10+ containers across EU cities and campuses over the next 3 years
- To integrate our solution into sustainability reporting platforms
- To build long-term partnerships with ESG-minded corporations, NGOs, and municipal developers
Q: What are you looking for in the vertical farming (VF) space – what kind of collaborators?
We are looking for:
- Technology partners
- Clients – businesses, municipalities, real estate developers, and schools seeking tree-growing solutions
- City planners and architects to integrate our glazing-walled containers into public and mixed-use spaces
- Environmental consultants and ESG strategists for joint carbon and biodiversity reporting frameworks
- Educational institutions to co-create curriculum modules around trees, ecosystems, and climate
- Investors and grant funders with a focus on green infrastructure, biodiversity, and EU taxonomy alignment
