Addressing the challenge of feeding Africa’s rapidly urbanizing centers

Africa’s countries are experiencing an unprecedented rate of urbanization- at 3.5%, its cities are swelling at twice the global average. With environmental pressures also on the rise, serious questions are being asked about food security and sustainability. Urban agriculture will undoubtedly play a role in answering these questions, providing a future of secure food production in African cities. This potential for innovation will be on display 25-26 September, when Johannesburg will host the second-ever Urban Agri Africa Summit. This event will give us key insights into the unique opportunities and challenges offered by Africa’s urban centers.

Vertical farming is the right innovation at the right time

Urban Agri Africa will preview the latest joint ventures and present current case studies for debate. There will be seventeen key speakers over the two days, presenting on topics that will include effective and sustainable policy-making, opportunities for new technologies, and the commercial future for vertical farming in Africa. This year, the AVF will be present with a booth on the exhibition floor, as well as host a 25-minute presentation in front of key stakeholders in the African vertical farming industry.
