Food Tech Valley’s vision is to attract renowned enterprises and individuals capable of taking the industry to great heights. We have already signed several agreements with prominent local and international entities that will help us achieve our objectives, and we are open to collaborating with industry players in any space that will benefit the overall food and agriculture ecosystem.
Food Tech Valley is a UAE government-led initiative that was announced in 2021 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, as a partnership between the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and wasl properties, one of the largest real estate and asset management companies in the region. The project centres around food, innovation, knowledge, technology and sustainability and are designed to address food security locally, regionally, and globally.
Food Tech Valley is a globally unique, first-of-its-kind initiative uniting the complete food and agriculture ecosystem. The project will be home to four main clusters: a Food Production Zone, a Logistics Zone, a Business Park, and an Innovation and R&D Centre.
- The Food Production Zone is considered a vibrant economic zone in proximity to Dubai’s central business district and will cater to modern farming technologies, including vertical, aero, hydroponic, fish, and algae farms, among others.
- The Logistics Zone will cater to the rest of the value chain, including but not limited to trading, processing, packaging and logistics.
- The Business Park will include commercial offices; meeting and conference venues; and a business centre catering to food tech companies’ administration, marketing, and sales operations.
- The Innovation and R&D facilities will help in the incubation and acceleration of new solutions. Featuring an R&D lab, co-working spaces, as well as incubation and acceleration service providers. The centre will also include an academy seeking to nurture talents in food and agricultural sciences and modern technologies.
Food Tech Valley will bring together industry, government and academia stakeholders under one roof to address the rising demand for local and global sustainable agriculture growth. The dynamic ecosystem will empower farmers, business owners and entrepreneurs to address global food security challenges and pioneer sustainable food production that will reimagine how the world produces and consumes food.
The Food Tech Valley aims to support the UAE in meeting the objectives of the National Food Security Strategy 2051 and will focus, in its initial phase, on strategic projects to achieve food self-sufficiency while ensuring sustainability and the conservation of resources.
As part of our efforts to bolster the UAE’s food production, Food Tech Valley will play an instrumental role in incubating leading technologies and attracting renowned agri-tech players to help fulfil the holistic food basket initiative of the National Food Security Strategy 2051 pertaining to the growing of 18 food items in the country to address food consumption patterns and production capacity. This will allow us to navigate global challenges, secure the continuity of the food supply and enhance food quality.
The project will act as a catalyst to transform the UAE into a global hub for clean, tech-based food and agricultural solutions. It will also support and attract new agricultural technologies, bridging global and local knowledge in the field while establishing a collaborative network to lead regional transformation and export knowledge towards a sustainable food system.
